W. Broadway Cleanup

The West Broadway Business and Area Coalition (WBC) held their their second “Cleaner, Safer, Greener West Broadway” event on March 15th. The beautiful Saturday morning started at 9am with over 50 neighbors, young and old, coming out to join in a trash cleanup along the Broadway corridor. In addition to picking up trash and sweeping the sidewalks, volunteers planted several plants in available garden beds along the street.

The festivities continued at noon with a lively festival in the parking lot at Broadway and Lyndale. Free pizza and hot dogs as well as sno-cones and cotton candy were all provided by area businesses. There was both live and DJed music, as well as dance performances from students at the Hollywood studio of Dance and a step crew. Hundreds came through for the festival, which also included face painting, caricatures and balloon animals.

The WBC has hosted to of these clean-up events in the past year and it plans on doing more. Individual neighbors came out, but so did several neighborhood groups, like the Visitation Sisters and the African American Men’s Project.
